The people of Normandy Presbyterian Church have always been focused on outreach to our community. This story is about Phil and Sue Ayres, pictured here — lifelong members of our church — and how their legacy continues to make an impact.
Sue was known for her generosity and would often — when hearing of a need — reach into her purse and give money to help others in need. Her husband (Phil) at her passing honored that memory by establishing a trust fund as a way for our church to help people in the Normandy area who were experiencing hard times. Through that trust, Sue’s Purse was born. It has inspired other individuals to be like Sue by giving their money to help people in need.
Two years ago NPC started researching an outreach mission that would be focused on the Normandy community and their needs. We borrowed from the legacy already established and called ourselves the Sue’s Purse Committee, focusing on those with food insecurities. We hosted our first food giveaway to 15 families. Our 5 cents per meal special offerings on the 5th Sunday services are directed to the Sue's Purse fund.
When the other churches of Normandy saw what we were doing they wanted to get involved. And the Three Churches of Normandy began distributing food, household goods, and personal care items. Together. One Church, one Community — several times a year serving others. It’s a special time, for Jesus taught us that it is always more blessed to give than receive.
Our most recent distribution in February 2025 helped 28 families. Our next distribution is June 21. Follow us on Facebook or here for more information.
The February 2025 Food, Household & Personal Care Item Distribution. Thank you to everyone who volunteered from the 3 churches of Normandy to make this a success!
Ecumenical Commitment - The Three Churches of Normandy
The Normandy Presbyterian Church is committed to participation in ecumenical worship with the Baptist and Methodist churches in the community. God has blessed us individually and we want to share those blessings with each other and our community. We share resources and alternate worship together in each other’s building during the Easter season (Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunrise service).
Our community food distribution program involves all three churches as they participate by preparing and distributing household and personal care items to those in need.
Together, we sponsor a summer community event on the second Friday of each month with free food, games, live music and an opportunity for fellowship and sharing our blessings with the local community.
We invite anyone in our community to attend any of these ecumenical events and enjoy Sunday services at any of the Three Churches in Normandy.
